Mike’s Musings …

Compromise, Negotiate? Hummm…

Consider how synonymous these words are. With either word you use, all parties involved in “compromise” or “negotiation” only gain a part of the whole, and both parties lose a part of what they wished to retain. In business, professionals utilize their skills to reach what they claim is a “fair compromise through negotiations.” Redundant, isn’t it, considering the action and meaning of both words. Still, that’s the way of the world.

Unfortunately, many souls believe such a practice of “compromise” is permissible between their desires and God’s word. But with whom do these souls “negotiate?” God has stated His word is settled (unchangeable) in heaven (Psalm 119:89) Jesus confirmed the psalmist when He said, “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” (John 12:48) Again, with whom do the “compromisers” negotiate?

Still, souls act as if God permits them a compromise. They add instrumental music when God said to sing. They negate assembling when God said not to (Hebrews 10:25). They prefer entertainment to worship. We could go on and on. The fact is, there is no “compromise” at all: it is blatant rebellion against God’s established commandments! That equates with sin, and there is never “compromise” in God’s eyes regarding rebellion against Him! (Hebrews 10:26)

I muse on why folks aren’t satisfied with what God says! He loved us enough to give us His power to save (Romans 1:16-17). All we need to do is obey it! You’d think that would be perfect for any sinner!
