Mike’s Musings …

Editing Email Addresses

As the work of teaching and preaching God’s word increases, so does the need to remain current with addresses to where those efforts extend. Fifty-plus years ago, the address book I used received frequent corrections and additions. The roll-a-deck replaced the book and required additional cards as names and addresses increased. Now, though email has replaced stamps and envelopes, corrections and additions must be made to remain current with the work. The problem? Sometimes, just one mistake in typing those email addresses will negate the entire address and make the desired information undeliverable.

It can be a tedious task to add and/or edit email addresses! Capital letters instead of lower-case letters alter the address. Even a period mistakenly placed will alter the address. Omitting any part of the correct address, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, eliminates the ability to use that email address. Accuracy is critical to the assurance of delivery!

I muse on how this process should improve our BIBLE STUDY. Accuracy is necessary! No, we’re not correcting mistakes, nor adding to, or taking from the Word of God. I’m musing on the meticulous practice of carefully examining His Word. If we must be this meticulously accurate with something as mundane as email addresses, then should God’s Word receive no less attention? “Prov[ing] all things; hold[ing] fast that which is good,” (1 Thessalonians 5:21) speaks of those matters pertaining to our souls – NOT email addresses! Seeing such accuracy determines the righteousness of our spiritual standing before the God of Heaven, just how careful are we regarding our adherence to His word? Dealing with email addresses may require carefulness, but I, for one, muse on being much MORE accurate in the handling of God’s word. (2 Timothy 2:15)
