Mike’s Musings ….
School’s Out for the Summer
But LEARNING Doesn’t Stop
The time has come again that school has ended for the summer and graduates from high school and college must now enter a level of life they have never experienced. Many will enter secular employment and initiate careers with years of service. Others will pursue higher education (college for high school graduates, and higher levels of learning for those pursuing occupations requiring much higher education and experience.) In each case, however, learning doesn’t stop! Whether secular or scholastic, LEARNING is continual.
With summertime upon us, many will celebrate with planned vacations. Some plan to visit historical sites, others will visit family, while others return year after year to the same vacation spot. Regardless, LEARNING takes place because of the EXPERIENCE gained in the adventure. The formality of school may be dismissed for the summer, but learning is not!
Neither can one’s acquisition of GOD’S WORD be dismissed merely because of “summer vacation.” Too many plan their vacation time without examining where they will assemble for worship and bible study while on that vacation. Hebrews 10:25 has no “exception” clause! While it is the manner of some to neglect the assembling of ourselves, this passage condemns that action! Yet, many Christians think God has granted them “time off” because they are on vacation. Show me that passage! When can the Christian neglect the assembling or the act of WORSHIP where in LEARNING God’s word takes place: what constitutes “acceptable absence” from that action?
What an encouragement it is to know of brethren who are diligent in their faithfulness, and intentionally search to find a faithful group with which to assemble for worship and bible study while on vacation. There are many ways of finding the location of faithful brethren and their times of worship. Most of these brethren extend their hospitality in abundance toward those vacationing in their area. They also realize the need to continue learning God’s Word!
I muse on the priorities Christians place on the items of their lives. If God doesn’t come first, where is He and His kingdom in your list of priorities (Matthew 6:33; Colossians 1:18)? Don’t forget to keep your Bible where you can get it quickly – NOT deep in the suitcase as though you won’t be using it often! Remember, school may be dismissed for the summer, but LEARNING never stops!!!
