Mike’s Musings …

There is a Way that Seemeth Right

Twice Solomon wrote, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12; 16:25) God said through Jeremiah, “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.” (Jeremiah 6:16) Solomon also said, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” (Proverbs 22:28)

Each of these passages shows God had established a right path, a good way, an ancient landmark showing His way. But as was so frequently the case, God’s was rejected in favor of what man desired. Jeremiah would also write, “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23) Yet, now nearly two millennia after the prophecies of the Old Testament and into the law of Christ, hundreds of thousands of souls still reject God’s word in favor of going about to establish their own righteousness, instead of submitting to the righteousness of God (Remans 10:3)

Jesus stated God’s way precisely. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.” (John 14:6) Jesus is eternal (Hebrews 13:7) as is God the Father (Psalm 90:2), and therefore there can be no older way, nor any “newer and improved” way. It has always seemed strange to me that while archeology, true history, and other “treasure hunting” adventures endeavor to find the “original,” so many are intent on ignoring the proven truth from the Ancient of Days (Daniel 7). Who among mankind has ever simply spoken something into existence? Who among mankind has ever improved on God’s creation? Therefore, who among mankind could ever improve the written word of God; the gospel of Christ which is able to save our souls? (Romans 1: 16-17)

Peter informs us, “According as His divine power, [He/God the Father] hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1: 3 – 4). Unless one diligently follows God and His word, man’s ways may seem right, but they are “dead ends” eternally! Find the ancient landmark and don’t remove it! Follow Him in ALL you say and do, and find His way leads you through obedience to Christ, and faithfully onward to heaven eternal!
