Mike’s Musings …

‘Tis the Season”

This is a phrase we use when the result of a situation is contrary or negative to our desires. We cannot change the results, and the disappointment frustrates us a bit, so we express our defeat with “’tis the season,” and hope everyone understands. But disappointments are no one’s fault: they are as much a part of life as the surprises that brighten our days. No, I do not mean our lives are somehow balanced with an equal quantity of joy and disappointments. I mean we each share in both surprise and disappointment, but unfortunately, we tend to dwell more on discouraging facets than on joyful occasions!

Consider the passage of Romans 8:28: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” When situations arise that are “less than favorable” toward our desires, ponder passages like, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” (James 1: 2- 3) and “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Romans 5:3-5) There is a REASON for disappointments: they help strengthen our resolve to trust God and appreciate His guidance in all we say and do. Remember His promise from 1 Corinthians 10:13 and Hebrews 13:5-6, then add Philippians 4:13. Now, feel better? You should … ‘tis the season to rejoice! Now go muse on that reality!
