Mike’s Musings …
Unto Thee, O Lord
“Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.” (Psalm 25: 1-2)
Today’s world is filled with various forms of manipulation. When parents grow weary of their children’s insistence, they often surrender. When a majority of voices clamor for their desires, others acquiesce to the desire. Advertisers learn how best to entice potential buyers, and even the batting of eyes, or a subtle smile, can sway convictions to concede to the desires of the manipulative. Truly, only the strong survive the onslaught of manipulations in this life!
That’s why the CHRISTIAN needs to be committed, loyal, and decisively dedicated to Christ and His church! Notice the passage above. To God we lift up our souls. We trust in Him! We must not be ashamed. We will not let our enemies triumph over us! Examine these New Testament passages that concur with David’s statement: 1 Peter 5:7; 1 Timothy 4:10; Romans 1:16; Philippians 3: 1-21. We have no authority to comply with the whims and fancies of mankind, just because “they like it.” As children of God, we are commanded by Him, not man, and therefore must speak and act accordingly (Colossians 3:17).
Thus, unto Thee, O Lord, do I commit my life – not just my physical life, but of eternal value, my soul: for it is my soul that Christ redeemed with His blood (1 Peter 1:18-25), and was raised by the power of God to a new life when I obeyed the gospel (Romans 6:1-6).
I muse on the need for God’s children to realize they are not merely “members of the church” but much more “children of God” (2 Corinthians 6:14-18) when we obey the gospel. It is to GOD we owe our faithfulness, our loyalty, our dedication, our commitment, our all! We must make sure nothing interferes with that love!
