We Wish You Enough
For years, my late sister, Ruth Davis Forshey, would write her season’s greetings with the following poem. Since her passing in 2018, I’ve determined to use it not only in her memory but to encourage each reader of THOUGHTS WORTH THINKING to accept “enough.”
“I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough “Hello’s,” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”
The story of this poem is recorded, and you can Google it. However, with Ruth, even as it is with Nancy and me, there is a much deeper wish.
We wish you enough desire to keep your soul in love with God.
We wish you enough zeal to increase your service to Him.
We wish you enough love to realize how much it deceases hate.
We wish you enough study to learn we always need to learn more.
We wish you enough understanding to realize not all understand.
We wish you enough humility to allow God to exalt you in due time.
We wish you enough righteousness to stir up more righteousness.
We wish you enough faith to realize we must increase faith daily.
We wish you enough of God’s blessings now to make you desire them eternally.
We could go on. Nancy and I are so very grateful for all of you, and for the blood of Christ that joins us in His spiritual family! Further, these things listed (and many more) are not seasonal: they are our prayers each day for you! Indeed, we wish you all, “Enough!”
Mike and Nancy!
