Life is Precious Even in The Womb!

This past Thursday, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) voted 6 – 3 to overturn the famed Roe vs. Wade decision of some fifty years ago. While it does not make abortion illegal, it does return the decision of abortion to the states. SCOTUS admits the Constitution does not guarantee the right to abortion. As the Honorable Justice Alito wrote, “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision....”

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division. It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

To the prophet Jeremiah, God said, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” (Jer. 1:5) The passage has been often used to bolster the fact that life begins at conception. Science has proven the fact as well and in at least 26 states of the U.S. strict restrictions regarding abortion exist because of this reality. Those of us who support life agree that extreme limitations need to be used in cases of abortion. Rarely is aborting a life in the womb a “health care issue” and never should abortion be viewed as a “choice.” The “choice” should have been made before the conception: especially in cases where fornication or adultery was chosen rather than godliness! (1 Corinthians 7:2)

The liberal minds among U.S. citizens presently feel defeated in this issue and have been encouraged by their liberal law-making representatives to “fight” (literally and figuratively). Their very language illustrates their objection to godliness: they shamelessly use God’s name in vain as they express their hate-laced objections! Of this very evil, the psalmist wrote, “Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.” (Psalms 139:19 – 20) Jesus said of such verbal abuse, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45). Politicians are not immune to the law of God any more than we are immune to His word! (2 Corinthians 5:10)

While I applaud the decision of SCOTUS, I must quickly note three of the justices dissented from this change. Further, I must remind the reader that thousands of citizens in many states will continue demanding abortions for nearly any reason including “accidental pregnancy.” (That’s not a legal term, and obviously, not a righteous term, but is the term used by those who also foster immorality as a “choice” for their lives.) Additionally, the decision of SCOTUS has sparked anger from those supporting homosexuality as a “right.” Because of such godlessness, shouts in favor of violence against those who support God’s righteousness are heard again. In short, there remain massive numbers of people who continue ignoring God and HIS word! While it appears righteousness has gained a little more in this country, Christians will realize “all that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” (2 Timothy 3:12)

How sad it is that God’s Word is not examined as carefully as the Constitution of the United States when considering man’s desires. Think of it: The justices of SCOTUS have examined “Roe vs. Wade” and the associated lawsuits for over fifty years, and only today reached their conclusion. Serious Bible students have devoted much more time than this to studying God’s Word and conclude every time that there is nothing that will improve His plan of salvation, His design for the church, His decrees for conducting our lives before Him and our fellowman! (2 Peter 1:3) Unfortunately, not all of the citizens of the United States are students of God’s Word – they are usually selfish in their thinking, and sinful in their desires!

Oh, that we that love God and keep His commandments will continue defending Him and His Word regardless of the opposition we may face! The life that we desire is not only of the innocent babe in the womb, but that eternal existence in our lives called the soul! Only in Christ Jesus can one have this life (Galatians 2:20) and only by remaining there is this life guaranteed (2 Peter 1: 1 – 11
